Attorney, Serving Worcester County and Southern New Hampshire
Sarah Varney concentrates her practice in criminal defense and appeals in state and federal courts, practicing in Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire. Prior to joining the firm, she worked as a Staff Attorney at the New Hampshire Public Defender, representing clients in Juvenile, District, and Superior Courts, and previously interned with the Philadelphia Public Defender’s Office and the CPCS Public Defender Division office in Worcester.
Attorney Varney was drawn to criminal defense and appellate work while volunteering at the Pennsylvania Innocence Project, investigating post conviction innocence claims and researching legal arguments for appeals. She found her passion for holistic, client driven defense in public defender offices, and is driven by the interpersonal side of criminal defense work, representing each client as an individual rather than another case file. Since joining Rudolf, Griffis, Ruggieri & Murray, she has directed her practice toward more complex motions practice and appeals, including multiple post conviction appeals at the Massachusetts Court of Appeals and a federal sentencing appeal before the First Circuit Court of Appeals.
